Well, this week the weather is glorious – featuring the hottest day of the year so far the smell of charcoal and suncream will be prevailant in the early evening air around the whole of the UK. Here’s a lovely chicken tasty treat from the Telegraph website today:

Some people tend to use chicken breasts for kebabs, which look neater, but they’re not as tasty as thighs (and breast meat dries out on barbecues). You can also fry the thighs whole.

Catering Equipment Hire BBQ 2016 Summer

MAKES 6 skewers

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 large onion, peeled and quartered
  • Juice and finely grated zest of 2 unwaxed lemons
  • 4 cloves garlic, chopped
  • 80ml olive oil
  • 1 small bunch flat-leaf parsley, stalks included
  • 600g chicken thigh fillets

METHOD

Put everything except the chicken into a food processor, season and blitz to a rough purée. Put the chicken  fillets in a bowl and pour  over the purée. Cover and leave to marinate in the fridge for at least an an hour, or overnight.

If you are using wooden skewers, soak them in water to prevent them from burning. Lift the chicken out of the marinade and  cut the flesh into chunks (particularly thin bits of thigh may have to be folded over to form a chunk). Thread these on to the skewers and neaten the meat (little raggedy bits have a tendency to burn).

Season all over and cook either on a barbecue or on  a griddle pan, turning frequently using long tongs. Timing will depend on the heat of your barbecue, but on a griddle pan they take about eight minutes. Make sure the chicken is cooked through.

Serve with lemon wedges, rice or couscous and salad. A bowl of garlicky yogurt (as per previous page) is good, too. Read the article here.

Adams Catering Hire are an established catering hire company and we have delivered to some great events in the past 20 years. But these are some of my favourites.

Launch of Hear’Say

Hear’Say were a British pop group, created through ITV reality TV show Popstars in 2001 and to launch the release of their first album they held an event in London which was catered for by Suzanne James Catering.

I was lucky enough to be able to go along to the event and take my children who were massive fans. The event was a great success and helped launch a great, if short, career for the band members, all of whom have gone on to carve out solo careers.

‘Say Cheese’

Set designer, Alice Hodge and Chef Ellen Parr recreated Martin Parr’s photographs of a ‘typical British cafe of the 1960’s’ into a truly memorable five-course meal like for like. The venue was split into the dining room and a fully stocked bar with retro-classics as seen in Martin’s photographs.

 

I was again, lucky enough to be invited to experience Rosie’s Cafe and I must say it was a real gem.  The Art of Dining, continually surprise me and everyone else with their innovative way of creating food related experiences and events, well worth looking out for.

Celebrity Weddings

We have provided for many celebrity weddings over the years, many of which have non-disclosure clauses restricting us telling you how magnificent some of them were. But one which we can ‘brag’ about was at the Garden Museum, I will let you decide how good it all looked.

 

Gorgeous venues

I have to say that my favourite venue and event was at The Royal Exchange, Easy Gourmet catered with a banquet for an Iranian style wedding complete with treats flown over from Iran especially for the guests. Crystal chairs really suit this venue with its stone and grey tones and the crystal trees made from Swarovski crystals really made a statement table centre.

If you are having guests thats are sitting at tables to eat, it is possibly better to have cloths that only reach halfway or two-thirds of the way down. This is especially true for older guests and children who can get their legs and feet tangled and trip as they are trying to get up.

Long tablecloths – to the floor or to box in tables

This is a very popular look, very sleek and stylish. Cloths would reach the ground so no table legs would be on show. Cloths are made in specific sizes and not necessarily perfect for each table, so some you may need to ‘tuck under’ to achieve the look. Trestle tables are often used for bars and with a cloth over – the bins etc are hidden from view

It’s the World Naked Bike Ride in June 2016 and for those less inclined to seeing flesh, the stage production of ‘Harry Potter & the Cursed Child’ . The play is SOLD OUT with prices going on viagogo for in excess of £1500 for tickets. But if that is a bit out of your budget, then why not settle in front of the TV, invite some friends over for strawberries & some Pimms and watch good, old Wimbledon.

Starting on Monday June 27th till Sunday July 10th 2016, this tennis tournament is a must on the London calender.

Don’t have a ticket? Well there are still plenty of ways to enjoy this favourite London spectacle.

Make up a picnic basket with goodies and head off to one of the many free outdoor screens including

And more besides, there are plenty of local centres offering free screenings, check out your local guide for more details.

And, following on from her (real) 90th birthday recently, there is always Trooping the Colour – The Queen’s Birthday Parade.

A military tradition dating back to the early 18th century, the Household Division of the Horse Guards show some serious marching manoeuvres along the Mall, but get there early if you want to get a good view. And after the parade, the royals head back to Buckingham Palace for balcony photo op and there’s usually a fly-past at 1pm to wind things up.

Its a relative new Bank Holiday and only introduced in 1978 by Michael Foot, but one that is enjoyed by us all as hopefully the beginning of Spring.

Associated with May Day is maypole dancing and Morris dancing, neither of which I ever remember doing myself, but entertaining to watch. I’d probably get tangled in the ribbons or bash myself with the short stock. Ouch!
Another fine tradition is the crowning of the May Queen, representing the Roman Goddess Flora, the goddess of fruit & flowers – often a local schoolgirl and taking no part in the games or dancing but sits in her flower-decked chair to watch her ‘subjects’.
The newest of the traditions in Oxford madrigals are sung from the roof of the tower of Magdalen College with thousands gathering to listen and watch followed by music and dancing, and as many of the bars are open all night this can get pretty rowdy.

If not quite what you are up to then turn your head to perhaps organising a party or BBQ in the garden, inviting a few friends over for drinks or even (if the weather is nice enough) embarking on a picnic.
